The President of the Republic of Indonesia appointed Rachmat Witoelar as the President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change Control. He held a position as the Indonesian Minister of Environment (2004 – 2009), and the Executive Chair of the Indonesian National Council on Climate Change (2010 – 2014).
The President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change has the following tasks:
- To assist the President in strengthening the position of Indonesia in international forums on climate change control.
- To encourage developed countries to take more responsibility in controlling climate change; and
- To carry out other duties related to climate change control given by the President
There are currently three climate leaders working for the President’s Special Envoy: Amanda Katili Niode, first trained in Montreal in 2008, as Head of the Expert Team; Murni Titi Resdiana, first trained in Melbourne in 2009, as the Assistant to the President Special Envoy; and Lia Zakiyyah, trained in Manila in 2016, as the Deputy Assistant.
Matthew Boms who have met Rachmat Witoelar at the LPDS Media Meet and at @america visited the Office and met with climate leaders and other staff to exchange information on climate activities.
