One of the practical ways to combat climate change is to plant more trees to take more carbon out of the atmosphere.

The Climate Reality Project with CIRI (Citra Kartini Indonesia), Paguyuban Budiasi and Youth for Climate Change Indonesia (YFCC) organized tree planting event in RTH Kalijodo.

Kalijodo, an area that used to be a red-light district, has recently been transformed into a green open space (RTH) and child-friendly integrated public space (RPTRA)

The 3.4-hectare Kalijodo Park, open 24 hours, boasts playground for children and an international standard skate park.

Among the trees planted were: Buni (Antidesma bunius), Pule (Alstonia scholaris), Rasamala (Altingia excelsa Noronha), Menteng (Baccaurea racemosa), Merbau (Itsia spp.), Asoka (Saraca asoca), Mahoni (Swietenia mahagonI), Manglit (Magnolia blumei) and Kemiri Sunan (Reutealis trisperma).

Paguyuban Budiasi was founded by Major General Doni Monardo to establish nurseries of hard trees to promote planting activities, maintenance and rehabilitation of critical lands and reforestation of lands throughout Indonesia., With three nurseries in Sentul, West Java; Cibubur, West Java; and Kunciran, Banten; each year Paguyuban Budiasi provides various types of tree seedlings free of charge for reforestation needs in  all levels of society, Government agencies, private companies, and others in need. Since 2006 Paguyuban Budiasi has distributed eight million hard trees and fruit trees, including rare plants.

The Youth for Climate Change Indonesia was established as an entity that brings together the alumni of Youth for Climate Camp (YFCC). The YFCC, a regular activity managed by The Climate Reality Project Indonesia and its partners began in 2011. Students come from all over Indonesia for specialized experiential training focusing on achieving an understanding of climate change, followed by workshops on how to engage communities in climate change actions, and a showcase of actions on the ground. Currently there are more than 1500 YFCC alumni from all over Indonesia.

CIRI (Citra kartini Indonesia) facilitates economic empowerment for women. Among the group’s programs are practical training sessions to help women set up their own home businesses, including providing them with free “Coding Mum” short courses. CIRI believes that women play an important role in battling climate change. That belief manifests itself as set of green activities for women.
